Star Chef ★ Shinagawa Kitchen Second Term: Report # 4




This is report #4 from the second term of Star Chef Shinagawa Kitchen!

Thank you all for joining the last workshop!



 
So here is the detail of the event.



First, we had Ms. Obata - Section Chief of International Affairs, Community Promotion


Section of Shinagawa City Office – introducing March edition of “City News Shinagawa”


and
“Disaster Prevention Fair” which was held on 7th March.



 
Next, Gami sensei led us singing “Hello Song”.


 
After singing the song cheerfully, it is time to introduce each other at each table.



We say our name and share each other our favorite things by saying “I like…”


Please practice this phrase at home too



 
We had TV crew from “Shinagawa Cable TV” to film our workshop!



They interviewed some of our participants ^^



 
Today’s menu is “Fisherman’s style Ika-meshi (squid with rice)” !


 
Have you ever made “Ika-meshi” at home?



Chef Jun showed us how to make “Ika-meshi”.



We first poked the surface of the squid with a fork.



Helped by father and mother, the children stuffed the sticky rice grain which has been


soaked in water for a night into the squid.



 
Then we sealed the open side of the squid with a toothpick.
 


Once we prepare the sauce for the “Ika-meshi”, we cook the squid for 40 minutes.
 


Next chef Jun and Gami sensei taught us how to make dumpling soup!
 


We mixed the dumpling ingredients.
 


After kneading the dough, we tear into a bite size and stretch into thinner piece.
 


Look how much we have made!
 


We put the ingredients for the soup inside the pot together with the dumpling and cook


for 5 minutes. Everyone is enjoying conversation in English ^^



 
Dumpling soup is ready!
 


We can smell the nice aroma of “Ika-meshi”!
 


We take out the “Ika-meshi” out from the pot and put it on a plate.
 


Watching his father’s demonstration, the child cuts the piping-hot “Ika-meshi”.
 


One by one, we place the sliced “Ika-meshi” onto the plate.
 


Once we pour the sauce of the “Ika-meshi”, the dish is ready to be served!
 


It is perfect for spring dish!
 


Dumpling soup is ready, looking delicious!
 



As this was the last workshop, Gami sensei taught us how to make a medal using


origami!

 


Everyone made their personalized medal

A mother receives the medal made by their children as a gift^^

Lastly, we said farewell by singing “Good Bye Song”.
