This is a report from the third workshop of Star Chef ★ Shinagawa Kitchen!
Thank you all for joining the third workshop☆
From total of four workshops, this is the third one. We hope you all enjoy cooking and interactive communication in English and Japanese.
Here are details from the workshop.
This time is about Hawaiian Pancake with tofu and secret of Hawaiian hula dance!!
Before explaining about the event, we would like to introduce few guests who came to the event♪
First we had students from Faculty of Sociology of Musashi University joining the event. They are currently researching about “local community and foreign residents”. The students found out about our Star Chef ★ Shinagawa Kitchen workshop from the Internet, and they came to interview our participants. They introduced themselves in English to our participants.
Next we had Murai-sensei, a wonderful teacher from “T & T English”, introducing her English language class in Square Ebara. She is teaching English in both Elementary and Junior High Schools, in Shinagawa-ku. Thank you to Murai-sensei for her English and Japanese explanation ☆
Lastly we had Aida-sensei, a Japanese language teacher form IWC-Kokusai Shimin no Kai (Interact with Community-International Citizens Association) and Ikegami-sensei, a familiar face to our EI-KIDS, introducing IWC’s activity.
We appreciate for the opportunity to interact with English language class and foreigner supporting groups in Shinagawa.
Now let the workshop start!
Wakana-sensei and Tina-sensei dressed up in “muumuu” and “lei”.
We first mixed the ingredients in a bowl.
Our participants also dressed up in aloha shirts and Hawaiian style clothing! Thank you☆
This time we had two families grouped into one team to prepare the pancakes.
In Naoko’s team, everyone is preparing to cook pancakes in turns.
As this is the third workshop, the participants are already familiar with each other, and everyone seem to enjoy the interaction.
Below is a scene witnessed by one of our staff. This time, we had two families sharing one bowl to make a pancake mix. One of the child wanted to make pancake on his own and refused to share with other family. However his mother explained to him about the importance of sharing and taking in turns. After a while, the child started to notice the joy of sharing and taking in turns to cook with his friends, and at the end he really seem to enjoy the whole situation ♪ Within two hours, it is great to see positive changes to our own children!
The students from Musashi University is interviewing the participants.
The pancake is ready and looks delicious!!
Can children along with the mother flip the pancake neatly?
A father is supporting his child to cook the pancake.
The students from Musashi University also tried interviewing the participants in English!
In Yoshiko’s team, everyone is doing well with cooking pancakes. The pancakes are nicely cooked!!
Next is a story time from Tina-sensei, supported by Junko!
Wakana-sensei is checking the state of the pancake.
We can see the children enjoying exchanging conversation with each other.
We tried Tina-sensei’s hula dance. Both parents and children danced together!
One of the English speaking father demonstrated the correct English pronunciation to the audience. Thank you!!
We cut the bananas for decoration.
Then we topped the pancakes with sliced bananas and fruits.
Next, we decorated the pancake with cream.
Then we finally put chocolate toppings.
Wakana-sensei went around the tables to sprinkle sugar powder on the pancakes.
Mothers in large group table were actively helping each other. We really appreciate your cooperation!!
Moro’s table representing “Dad’s team” showed great team spirit! The team enjoyed discussion on English education too ♪
We had delicious looking Hawaiian pancakes ready on all tables!
Finally, tasting time ♪♪
We had Tina-sensei’s story time using large scale picture book.
Afterwards we had an activity where we exchanged colorful piece of paper with each other.
Photo shoot in Hawaiian atmosphere!
We closed the third workshop by singing Tina sensei’s Good-bye song.
There will be one more workshop in the first term’s Star Chef ★ Shinagawa Kitchen. We hope everyone enjoy the last workshop together with their friends and families ♪
