This is a report from the first workshop of Star Chef ★ Shinagawa Kitchen!
Thank you all for coming to the workshop!
We have total of four workshops, so three more workshops to go! Let’s all enjoy cooking together, and interactive communication in English and Japanese. Please stick around until August!
Here are details from the first workshop.
Our instructors, EI-KIDS staff and other supporting members (mothers) gathered early and prepared for the workshop.
Let’s start! We had an introduction speech given by Ms. Obata, Section Chief in charge of International Affairs, Community Promotion Section of Shinagawa City Office.
We started off with Tina sensei’s “Hello Song” !! We sang “Hello” in ten different languages. Please practice this song at home, as we will be singing this song in every workshop☆
Everyone sang the song nicely and cheerfully!
After the warm up song, it’s time for naan making taught by Wakana sensei!
Everyone took turns, to knead the dough.
In Akiko’s (EI-KIDS staff) group, everyone helped each other to knead the dough.
Also in Yukari sensei’s group, everyone punched down and shaped the dough into a ball.
Next step is to knead the dough into a V-Shape. Young children participated together with their mothers♪ While waiting for the dough to rise, let’s make Keema Curry!
Akane’s (EI-KIDS staff) group cooked the ingredients!
We could smell the beautiful aroma of ginger, garlic and onion! They are nicely cooked ☆
One team seasoned the ingredients with salt and pepper!
Followed by another team, who added tomato puree.
Wakana sensei is going around to support Mio’s group.
Fathers in Akane’s group and Gami sensei are cooking beans and okura.
Everyone enjoyed cooking together with their friends!!
Adding chocolate as our secret ingredients and Keema curry is finished!! Now the kitchen is filled with delicious aroma of curry.
It’s time for Tina sensei’s face yoga!! Squeeze your face like Umeboshi…..
Then turn into a bright smile! We had some shy faces around, but everyone did well from Umeboshi face expression to a big smile!
Thanks to Tina sensei, we all felt great after yoga in English!
Moment of surprise and new findings♪ The dough has become round and risen so big! All the children looked very surprised.
Shape the dough into your favorite shape.
Beautiful flower shape! Cute heart shape☆
Then place the naan into the oven. Is it ready? Not yet?
While we wait for naan to bake, it’s time for Tina sensei’s story time! Of course, the story is about curry♪
Naan is baked and ready to eat!
This time, an interviewer and cameraman from Shinagawa Cable TV, and a writer from Yahoo! News as well as Public Relation Section of Shinagawa City Office came for an interview. A family joined for an interview to share their experience about the workshop.
The cameraman capturing the moment of a father enjoying the Keema Curry. Looks delicious♪♪
We finished by singing Good-Bye Song with sign language by Tina sensei. Please practice this song with your children at home♪♪
Thank you all for your cooperation to make our first workshop possible!
